Implants

Missing a tooth? Learn how dental implants work, who they're right for, and why having your implant placed and restored in one office makes the process simpler.

Dental implants are one of the most natural-looking, long-lasting ways to replace missing teeth. Because an implant replaces both the root and the visible tooth, it looks, feels, and functions much like a natural tooth.

At The Dentist, our doctors place and restore dental implants in-house. You can go from your first consultation to your final crown in one familiar office, with the same team you already know.

Implants can be a good fit if you’re missing one tooth, several teeth, or a full arch, or if you’re ready to move on from a bridge or denture that doesn’t feel secure.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that replaces a missing tooth from the root up. It has three parts:

  • The implant: a small post placed in the jawbone. Over several months, the bone fuses with it, creating a stable foundation.
  • The abutment: a connector that attaches to the implant and holds the new tooth in place.
  • The restoration: a custom crown, bridge, or denture that completes your smile.

With good care, dental implants are designed to last for many years.

What Are the Benefits of Dental Implants?

  • A natural look and feel. Implants are designed to blend in with your smile and feel like your own teeth.
  • Comfortable eating and speaking. Because implants are anchored in the jawbone, they don’t slip the way some dentures can.
  • Protection for neighboring teeth. Unlike a traditional bridge, a single implant doesn’t require reshaping the healthy teeth next to it.
  • Support for your jawbone. Implants can help preserve the bone that tends to shrink after a tooth is lost.
  • Long-lasting results. With good home care and regular checkups, implants are designed to last for many years.

Implant Options for One Tooth, Several Teeth, or a Full Arch

Every implant plan is built around your mouth and your goals. Depending on how many teeth you’re replacing, our doctors may recommend:

  • A single implant with a crown to replace one missing tooth.
  • An implant-supported bridge to replace several teeth in a row.
  • An implant-supported denture to replace a full arch with a more secure fit than a traditional denture.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Many adults who are missing teeth are candidates for implants. In general, good candidates:

  • Have healthy gums, or are willing to treat gum disease first
  • Have enough jawbone to support an implant
  • Are healthy enough for a minor oral surgery procedure
  • Are committed to brushing, flossing, and regular checkups

Some health conditions, medications, and habits such as smoking can affect how well an implant heals. A consultation will tell us whether implants are the right fit for you and, if not, what other options make sense.

The Dental Implant Process at Our Office

Implant treatment usually takes place over a few months and several visits. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Consultation and planning. We’ll examine your mouth, review your health history, and talk through your options and timeline. If a damaged tooth needs to come out first, we can handle the tooth extraction here too.
  2. Implant placement. Our doctors numb the area and place the implant in your jawbone. Sedation options are available if you feel anxious.
  3. Over the next few months, the bone fuses with the implant. Healing time varies from patient to patient.
  4. Your final restoration. Once the implant is stable, we attach the abutment and your custom crown, bridge, or denture, made by lab partners we’ve trusted for years.

Why Have Your Implant Placed and Restored in One Office?

Implant treatment is often split between offices, with one placing the implant and another restoring it. At The Dentist, both steps happen under one roof.

That means one treatment plan, one team, and fewer handoffs. The doctor who plans your final tooth is part of the same team that places your implant, so every step is coordinated from the start.

Our methods, materials, and lab partners have stayed consistent for many years, which helps us deliver predictable, natural-looking results. And because The Dentist is 100% privately owned and operated, you’ll see familiar faces at every visit, not a rotating cast of providers.

How Do You Care for a Dental Implant?

Caring for an implant is a lot like caring for your natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss daily, and keep up with your professional dental cleanings and checkups. Healthy gums are key to helping your implant last.

If you clench or grind your teeth, ask us whether a custom night guard can help protect your implant and restoration.
