Short
Term Ortho
What is Short Term Cosmetic
Orthodontics?
SHORT TERM ORTHO (STO) is traditional
orthodontics with a twist. Instead of
focusing on a patient’s back teeth
and the way they bite, we focus on the
front teeth and the way they look. The
goal of STO is to improve the appearance
and cosmetics of your front teeth, while
not dramatically altering your back teeth
or bite. Doing so allows us to complete
treatment very quickly, usually in as
little as 6 months!
Is it safe for my teeth, roots,
and gums?
STO is just as safe as traditional
orthodontics. We use low-force wires to
gently move teeth into the proper position.
You will also be provided with a cushioning
material if there are any areas of irritation.
Is it uncomfortable?
Typically patients experience
minor soreness for the first couple days
after starting treatment. After this initial
period, treatment progresses quite comfortably.
Many people think that achieving results
in just 6 months must require tightening
the braces more than regular orthodontics.
Nothing could be farther from the truth!
STO uses low-force wires that limit the
movement of your back teeth, resulting
in a more comfortable treatment.
Will I need a retainer when treatment
is finished?
As with any type of orthodontics,
your newly straightened teeth will need
to be kept in place. Removable clear retainers
are included in your treatment, however
certain patients may benefit from a bonded
retainer that permanently affixes to the
backs of the front teeth. At your consultation,
Dr. Van Sluyters will discuss the benefits
of each style of retainer.
Cost
The fee for STO is typically
about 25% less than regular orthodontics
and/or invisiline. At your consultation
appointment, the necessary fees for your
specific treatment will be reviewed. After
your braces come off, professional tooth
whitening is included (at no additional
fee) so you can show off your new smile.
How does STO compare to Invisiline?
STO is a great alternative to
Invisiline. Invisiline treatment typically
takes 6-12 months longer and costs $1000-2000
more.
I’m interested in STO, what’s
the next step?
The next step is very easy. Simply
call our office and we can get you scheduled
for a free orthodontic consultation.
